Franciscan Monastery Cres

The Franciscan monastery sits at the edge of the old town and was originally built outside the walls. It includes the Gothic church of St Francis from the 13th century with 15th-century carved choir stalls, a bell tower with four stone heads representing the winds, and two cloisters with cisterns. The monastery museum shows a signed wooden Madonna by Andrea da Murano (c. 1470) and one of only three surviving copies of the Glagolitic Senj Missal (1494). Open-air concerts take place in the new cloister in summer.
