Church of St Mary the Great

The main church of Cres, also called St Mary of the Snows, stands just behind the harbour gate beneath the clock tower and was completed at the end of the 15th century. Highlights are the Renaissance portal with Annunciation figures, a wooden pietà from the early 15th century that survived the fire of 1826, and an organ by Callido from 1829. Next to it rises a 22 m bell tower. On the patron feast on 5 August and on Sundays the choir of about 40 singers performs.
