City gates of Cres

Only remnants survive of the walls and five towers that once protected Cres, most were torn down in the late 19th century and after the Second World War. Three gates remain: Porta Bragadina (1581) and Porta Marcella (1588) on the seafront promenade, named after the Venetian governors of the time, and the harbour gate beneath the clock tower. A round tower on the hill and a few wall fragments complete the picture.
