Crikvenica Travel Guide: Kvarner, Croatia

Crikvenica lies on the mainland directly opposite the island of Krk and is one of the Kvarner Bay's most traditional seaside resorts. As early as the beginning of the 20th century, the first spa guests came for the mild climate and the clear sea. Today, the riviera with Selce, Dramalj and Jadranovo is especially popular with families.

Beaches and Promenade

Crikvenica's town beach is long, shallow and well equipped – perfect for kids. Along the riviera you'll find more pebble and rocky beaches as well as small coves. A long seafront promenade lined with palm trees connects the towns and invites you to stroll, cycle and enjoy an ice cream. From here, you have a view of Krk all day long.

Activities for Families

Besides beach life, Crikvenica has an aquarium with fish and sea creatures of the Adriatic, water playgrounds and plenty of water sports options such as pedal boats, kayaks and boat trips. In summer, concerts and festivals take place on the promenade.

The Vinodol Valley Inland

Just a few minutes inland, the green Vinodol Valley begins. Here you'll find old castles of the noble Frankopan family, for example in Grižane and Drivenik, surrounded by vineyards and small villages. Hiking and cycling trails lead through the valley and up into the hills with views of the sea.

A Healthy Holiday

Crikvenica has a long tradition as a health resort. The sea climate and fresh air make the town a pleasant destination for relaxation and walks by the water, even in the pre- and post-season.

Getting There

Crikvenica is located on the coastal road between Rijeka and Senj and is easy to reach by car. It's only a few minutes to the Krk Bridge, so the riviera combines well with day trips to Krk.
