Kaštel

The Kaštel is the historic core of Crikvenica. In 1412 Nikola IV Frankopan founded a Pauline monastery here next to the older Church of the Assumption, which is still the oldest part of the complex. For about 400 years the white monks were a centre of learning, art and medicine in Vinodol, and the miniaturist Julije Klović was educated here. After the order was dissolved in 1786, the complex became a spa house, a children’s home and finally today’s Hotel Kaštel.
