Kraljevica: two castles on one bay

Just minutes from the Krk Bridge, Kraljevica is often skipped, unfairly. Stari grad by the harbour combines a lower and upper castle, the older part probably a small fortress with a St Nicholas chapel. On the hill at the entrance to the Bay of Bakar, Petar Zrinski began Nova Kraljevica in 1651, a four-towered castle whose family museum was among the earliest in Croatia and which now houses a visitor centre. The town also has the oldest shipyard on the Adriatic. In summer, Leto va Kraljevici brings mostly free concerts and town walks.
