Mrgari Stone Flowers
Mrgari are one of the most unique cultural landmarks on the island of Krk. These impressive dry stone structures were built using an ancient technique where stones are stacked without any binding material.
Their shape is what makes them truly special. Each mrgari is designed like a large stone flower with multiple enclosed sections. These structures were used by shepherds to sort and separate sheep belonging to different owners.
They are located on the rocky plateaus above the Baška valley and form a distinctive part of the cultural landscape. Mrgari are rare and fragile and represent a traditional way of life that has almost disappeared.
In total there are 15 mrgari. Five are located on the southwestern plateau five on the northeastern plateau and five on the nearby island of Prvić.
