Frankopan Castle
The Frankopan Castle on Kamplin Square is one of the most important historical landmarks in Krk Town. Built over several centuries by the powerful Frankopan family, it tells the story of one of Croatia's most influential noble dynasties.
The oldest part of the fortress is the square tower, dating back to 1191, making it one of the oldest preserved sections of the complex. Over the following centuries, additional towers, defensive walls and living quarters were added, creating the impressive castle visitors can explore today.
A highlight is the Lion of St. Mark, a stone relief symbolizing the period of Venetian rule, together with an inscription dating from 1500.
Today, the Frankopan Castle is one of Krk's most iconic attractions and regularly hosts exhibitions, concerts and cultural events during the summer.
