Novi Vinodolski Travel Guide – Kvarner, Croatia

Novi Vinodolski lies south of Crikvenica on the coast of the Kvarner Bay. Together with its neighboring villages Povile and Klenovica, it forms a peaceful riviera with pebble beaches, clear water and plenty of greenery. If you're looking for a holiday away from the crowds, this is the place for you.

History: The Frankopans and the Vinodol Law Code

The old town, with its white façades and red roofs, climbs up the hill to the Church of St. Philip and James. Above it stands the castle of the noble Frankopan family. The Vinodol Law Code, one of the oldest legal documents written in Croatian, was drawn up in Novi Vinodolski in 1288. You can learn more about this history in the city museum.

Beaches and Promenade

The town's main beach is well equipped and offers sports, bars and restaurants. Along the coast you'll find many more beaches and coves, which are often much quieter. A promenade runs along the sea and is perfect for strolling and jogging.

Hiking and Cycling in the Hinterland

Behind the town, the land rises steeply. Hiking and cycling trails lead through forests and meadows up to an altitude of over 1,000 meters. From the top, you get a magnificent view over the Vinodol Valley, the sea and the islands of Krk and Rab.

Klenovica and Povile

It's especially quiet in the small fishing villages of Klenovica and Povile. Boats lie in the harbor, restaurants serve fresh fish, and on the pebble beaches you can usually find a nice spot even in summer.

Getting There

Novi Vinodolski is located on the coastal road between Rijeka and Senj. You can reach the Krk Bridge in about half an hour and Rijeka in around forty-five minutes.
