Lopar Peninsula and Lopsica Fortress

On the Lopar peninsula south-east of the centre lie the remains of the late antique fortress of Lopsica. It was built in the 3rd or 4th century to guard a Roman road, later served the Frankopans as a lookout against Ottoman raids and was destroyed by Venetian forces in 1598. The islet of Sveti Marin lies opposite. You can walk there along the promenade from Rivica and Pod Lopar beaches.
