Novljanski Mesopust (Winter Carnival)

Novi’s centuries-old carnival begins each year on the first Sunday after Epiphany and ends on Ash Wednesday. In between come Saturday dances, three carnival Thursdays, children’s parades, a big parade on Carnival Sunday, the Novljansko kolo round dance on the Placa and, on Tuesday, the burial of the figure Ćurunbela. The carnival chronicle Žitak Mesopusta has been kept since 1862.
