Vinodol Code (Vinodolski zakonik)

The Vinodol Code of 1288 is among the oldest Slavic law codes and the oldest of the Croatian town statutes. It was written in Glagolitic script in Chakavian Croatian as an agreement between the people of Vinodol and their new lords, the Frankopans, and compiled by a commission of 42 members. It survives in a 16th-century copy held by the National and University Library in Zagreb. In Novi, a memorial fountain near the castle commemorates it.
