An evening in Volosko
Volosko is the fishing village at the northern end of the Lungomare, and the place locals go to eat. Between narrow stone lanes, small galleries and the harbour with its fishing boats are some of the best-known restaurants on Kvarner Bay.
What to know:
• Plavi Podrum on the harbour is, according to the tourist board, the riviera’s oldest restaurant and has twice appeared on San Pellegrino’s list of the world’s 100 best restaurants.
• Konoba Tramerka cooks under the peka and follows the daily catch.
• Valle Losca offers a seasonal daily menu.
• Kvarner scampi are the local classic, raw, grilled or na buzaru.
Insider tip: walk over from Opatija on the Lungomare and have a coffee at the harbour first. By day, swim at Črnikovica pebble beach where locals go.
Good to know: many places are small, so book ahead in season and at weekends.
