Juraj Šporer

The physician Juraj Matija Šporer was one of the pioneers of the idea of turning Opatija into a climatic health resort. The Juraj Šporer Art Pavilion by the sea next to St James Park is named after him. Built in 1900, it once housed Emil Gerbeaud’s pastry shop and has been an exhibition venue since the 1930s.
