The Lungomare in one day – and back by bus

The Lungomare is the backbone of the riviera: for approximately 10 km according to Visit Opatija the seaside path runs without a break from Volosko through Opatija and Ičići to Lovran. You do not need a car to walk it all.

How it works:

• Start early in Volosko by the house of seismologist Andrija Mohorovičić, when it is still cool and quiet.

• In Opatija take a detour to Villa Angiolina and its park and to the Maiden with the Seagull.

• There are many swimming spots between Opatija and Lovran, so pack your swimwear.

• Lovran rewards you with its medieval old town and the Stubica gate.

Return on Autotrolej line 32, which links Rijeka, Volosko, Opatija, Ičići and Lovran. Check the current Autotrolej timetable for your return stop and departure; individual buses may serve different sections.

Insider tip: walk it once in the opposite direction in the late afternoon. You get evening light on the villa facades and can end the day with fish at Volosko harbour.

Good to know: the path is mostly flat and paved, but some sections have steps or narrow passages over rocks, so not every stretch suits a pushchair.
