Maiden with the Seagull

Opatija’s best-known statue by Zvonko Car stands on a rock on the Lungomare. The maiden reaches towards the sea where a seagull lands, greeting arriving ships. Earlier a Madonna stood here, placed for Count Arthur Kesselstadt who vanished in a storm in 1891. That Madonna is now in the Museum of Tourism.
