With your dog on the riviera
The Opatija Riviera is well set up for dog owners, with several designated dog beaches right on the Lungomare.
The dog beaches:
• Slatina in Opatija: fenced with safety gates, steps into the sea, a shaded bench, a shower and bins. Park in the Slatina garage or nearby streets.
• Mali Raj between Opatija and Ičići: a pebble beach with its own gate, separate from neighbouring areas, where you can rinse your dog.
• Lovran: the tourist board lists a dog beach near Villa Frappart.
According to the Opatija tourist board, dogs can go into the water at their own pace there, ideal for dogs new to the sea.
For hikes, the trails on Učka are an option, but remember you are in a nature park.
Insider tip: go early morning or in the evening. At midday the stone gets very hot for paws.
