By boat to Goli otok and Grgur

Two small islands with a dark past lie off Rab: Goli otok, the former prison often called the “Croatian Alcatraz”, and Sv. Grgur with remains of a women’s camp and about 50 bunkers. Boats leave Lučica harbour in Lopar, and full-day tours from Rab town with lunch also visit Zavratnica cove. Goli otok has a small restaurant and tourist train; on Grgur deer eat from your hand. Pick a calm day – trips are cancelled in bora. Bring sun protection and water.
