Grobnik Castle

The castle stands on a 466 m hill between the Rječina gorge and Grobnik Field. From 1225 it belonged to the Counts of Krk, later the Frankopans. It was extended from the 15th to the 18th century, with the years 1442 and 1664 carved in stone. The arcaded courtyard has a Gothic wellhead with coats of arms. In 1671, after Ban Petar Zrinski was executed, Grobnik was plundered. Legend tells of Lucija, who leapt into the chasm above the Rječina rather than follow the count.
