Frankopan Castle Bakar
The castle crowns the old town about 50 m above the sea. The 13th-century Vinodol Law Codex already describes Bakar as a fortified town with towers. It was one of the last castles built by the Frankopans, and from around 1557 the Zrinski ruled it. After both families fell in 1671 it served the administration, the military and even a linen factory. Its present look dates from repairs after the 1750 earthquake. Today it holds a small interpretation centre.
