City Tower
Rijeka’s landmark on the Korzo was once the gateway into the walled town. The round tower dates from the Middle Ages, probably on late antique foundations. Its Baroque portal shows the imperial coat of arms and reliefs of Emperors Leopold and Charles VI. The city clock has sat on top since the 17th century. The city arms, granted in 1659, show a double-headed eagle with an urn of flowing water and the motto INDEFICIENTER. Look for memorial plaques and a Gothic mason’s mark in the passage.
