Trsat Stairs (Petar Kružić Stairway)

This stone stairway links the city by the Rječina river with the shrine on Trsat. Petar Kružić, captain of Klis, built the first section in 1531, the upper part followed in 1725 and the lower entrance is dated 1745. There are 561 steps in total, lined with small votive chapels. The climb is sweaty but rewarded with fine views. Pilgrims once made their way up here.
