Turkish House and Roman House, Bakar

Two puzzling buildings in Bakar’s lanes. The oriental-looking Turkish House probably dates from the 14th or 15th century, with builder and purpose unknown. Legend says a sailor built it for his wife from Constantinople. The Roman House near the castle and St Andrew’s church is, despite its name, a local neo-Renaissance building with a fine porch and vaults. On the main square, old stone measures for salt and grain recall the town’s trade.
