Premužić Trail for beginners
The Premužić Trail is a gift for anyone who wants high mountains without climbing. Between 1930 and 1933 forestry engineer Ante Premužić built a dry-stone paved path along the Velebit ridge, on average 1.2 m wide with a gentle 10 % gradient. Today it is a protected cultural asset of national importance.
Planning your hike:
• Drive via Krasno to the Babić Siča entrance (daily 8:00 to 16:00, season roughly May to mid-November) and on to Zavižan.
• From Zavižan it takes about two hours to Rossijeva koliba shelter, right through the rock towers of the Hajdučki and Rožanski kukovi.
• Allow the same time to return.
• Add the Velebit Botanical Garden near Zavižan, best in June and July.
• Bring boots, a rain and wind jacket and enough water. At about 1,600 m the weather changes fast.
• Ticket: day pass €7, hikers pay the reduced rate.
You can stay overnight at the year-round Zavižan mountain hut.
