Hiking and Cycling on Krk: Trails, Tours and Tips
Krk is a paradise for hikers and cyclists. In a small area you'll find coastal paths with sea views, old trails between stone walls, green forests in the north and the barren, almost bare landscape around Baška. Here are our tips for active days on the island.
Hiking around Baška
Many hiking trails start around Baška. They lead through a rugged, rocky landscape with wide views over the sea as far as the islands of Prvić and Rab. Some trails end at secluded coves where you can cool off after your hike. The island's highest mountain, Obzova, is also in this area.
Trails in the north and the center
In the greener north and in the middle of the island, you'll hike through forests, olive groves and old villages. Between Vrbnik, Dobrinj and Omišalj there are quiet trails with beautiful views of the bay.
Cycling on Krk
Krk has a network of signposted cycling routes on quiet roads, gravel tracks and farm tracks. There are easy tours for families and demanding routes with lots of elevation gain. In several towns you can rent bikes and e-bikes.
The best time
Spring and autumn are ideal. In summer it's often too hot, so you should set off very early. On many trails there is hardly any shade and nowhere to stop for refreshments.
Tips for your tour
Bring enough water, sun protection and sturdy shoes. When the bora is blowing, it can get very windy on open areas, so trails in the forest are more pleasant then. The tours in the list below show you the length, difficulty and starting point.
